Montreal Comiccon

There is a great atmosphere about the place. I made so many sales that day. The best priced products are$30 and under people, then people are willing to spend. Anything costing more and you'll make less sales because very few people will buy it. well worth it to come back! i cant wait til next year

The location of this con is excellent, it's right in the heart of Montreal and there is a subway stop literally inside the convention center. The exhibition hall is massive and usually the con brings in lots of people and good guests. However, this used to be a September con and I believe the move to July has really hurt it. The crowd here is mostly younger and with limited budgets so while my small cheap stuff sold well enough I only sold a handful of prints, and unlike most cons I go to almost no one was walking around with prints in hand. I did okay, well enough to return next year, but one of my neighbors didn't make a sale at all on Sunday.

This is also definitely a con where following trends is really important. For instance Overwatch is huge right now and anyone I spoke to with art of it was selling out of their stock.
I will still go back next year but I will focus on having more small-ticket items rather than prints.
Oh and the staff is great, prompt and easy to talk to with any issues you might have.

I used to do Montreal ComicCon every year since it was a smaller event over 2 days. I decided to stop because the price of the tables was increasing but my sales had significantly dropped in the last two years. People weren't interested in original sketches anymore. They were looking for low price things they could just leave with. And the bigger the room got, the more artists and exhibitors filled the room, the more attendees acted super careful about where they chose to spend their money, especially since so much of it went to entrance fees, autographs and photo ops. I believe the date change from September to July has also affected the type of crowd that goes to MTLCC. In any case, what I offer does not fit with this crowd, and basically, I decided to not return. And that makes me sad, because I had fun regulars and artists I used to hang out with which made the con fun. But it's no longer profitable.
If you offer cool merchandise, you might make a killing. Original drawings no longer do. For me, anyway.

Montreal Comic Con is a fun con that gets bigger and bigger every year and often has a great guest list to bring in the crowds. The venue is massive and pretty and well-situated (and if you're farther out in the city, the subway stops literally in the building), the staff is friendly, and this con has a certain energy to it that's pretty fun. It REALLY helps if you can speak French and if your signs are bilingual. If there was any downside to this con it would be the layout. I myself have always had a great spot but some of my friends have been kind of sequestered off to the side and don't get as much traffic. Overall though one of the best Canadian cons to be an artist at.
